DEVYN DUEX
FOUNDER, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR & PRESIDENT

DEVYN DUEX has an eclectic background performing extensively in the United States as a dancer/actress/singer on stage and in film/TV. Prior to moving to Santa Barbara, CA in 2003 Devyn has performed with the James Sewell Ballet, Straw Hat Players, The Pittsburgh Playhouse, Cabrillo Music Theater, Buena Vida Productions, Universal Pictures, American Entertainment, Moorhead State University, Cabrillo Music Theater, Skits Outreach Company, and more! With her prior dance company Universal Dance based in LA she performed at over 200 events in 2 years; performing in several major US cities as well as Mexico. As a choreographer, Devyn has had the opportunity to work with the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Pittsburgh Playhouse Junior, Straw Hat Players, and Fargo Elementary School choreographing for the Theater.  She also choreographed a work while performing as a company member of Troupe Allegro at Moorhead State University. Since moving to Santa Barbara in 2003, Devyn has dedicated her energy to modern dance, working with Motion Theater Dance Company, SonneBlauma Danscz Theater, and independent choreographers: Marcos Duran "Coma 4", Heather Shea "Between Silences", and Nicole Helton "As We Are". In 2008 she debuted her new work “Release” in collaboration with the Fusion Dance Company’s show Intertwine and Daughter of Zion Dance Company's show Je' Taime. Under Nebula Devyn reworked 'Release' into a six section evening length piece premiered as 'Sand Into Glass' to sold out shows in 2012 and 2013 in Santa Barbara, CA. Devyn is honored to premiere Nebula's seventh new work, in collaboration with Shelby Lynn Joyce, 'Push & Pull' at San Pedro Music & Dance Festival (LA), and for the Santa Barbara community during the October 9th-11th performance run. Devyn holds a BA in Theater Arts- Musical Theater from Point Park University and an MBA/MKT degree from the University of Phoenix. She is a member of SAG and AFTRA. 

MEREDITH CABANISS
ASSISTANT REHEARSAL DIRECTOR, LIGHTING DESIGNER, DANCER, CHOREOGRAPHER 

MEREDITH CABANISS recently graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara after pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. During her studies she was a Regent’s Scholar; member of the UCSB Dance Company; and received undergraduate honors such the Undergraduate Research Award for her departmental Honor’s Project,  a Corwin Award for choreography, and other achievements in the department. She also studied with Batsheva Dance Company during their summer dance intensive in Tel Aviv, Israel. Meredith teaches throughout the Santa Barbara and Ventura area and is the artistic director of SELAH dance collective. In 2013, Meredith's work was selected as a finalist in the Palm Desert Choreography Festival and her dance collective, SELAH, has been invited to perform throughout California as well as in New York and abroad in Prague, Czech Republic.  

Joining Nebula Dance Lab in 2014 Meredith has shown her talents in many forms including Lighting Design for four shows including the inaugural year of the HHII Dance Festival lighting over 30 works in a 3 day period, Choreography beginning as a guest choreographer and progressing into a resident choreographer, and Dancer showcasing her strengths in last year's premiere of "The Inquisitor" as The Baker. 

MEGHAN MORELLI
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, DANCER

MEGAN MORELLI was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she took her first dance class at age three and hasn't stopped dancing since. She completed her college education with a minor in dance at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and hopes to someday return to earn and MFA in dance. While at Cal Poly, Meghan danced and choreographed with the Orchesis Dance Company, for which she received several rewards; the Sonia Sandoval Memorial Reward for her passion in dance, the Moon Ja Minn and Paul T. Suhr Most Deserving Dance Student Award, for her dedication to the company, and the Tomczac-Carter Award for her outstanding performances. Meghan danced alongside some of the greatest collegiate choreographers and dancers on the west coast at the America College Dance Festival during her senior year. After graduation she danced with Variable Velocity Performance Group under the direction of Diana Stanton and Jude Clark Warnisher in San Luis Obispo. Meghan is a new resident of Santa Barbara, where she teaches dance to many great young dancers at Studio B in Carpinteria. She is blessed to have this opportunity to dance with Nebula Dance Lab and join their creative collaboration.

LAUREN SERRANO
Principal Dancer 

 

Lauren graduated from University of California Santa Barbara with a B.F.A. in dance.

She is originally from Orange County where she trained at many local studios including

Jimmy Defores, and Edge Performing Arts Studio in Los Angeles. She went to Orange

County High School for the Performing Arts for classical and commercial dance. She has

won various scholarships including a 3-month training scholarship at Edge Performing

Arts studio, Miss Drill Team USA and received the departmental achievement award

from UCSB in 2011. Lauren moved to New York City in 2012 for a work-study

scholarship with Jennifer Muller and the Works. She has had the opportunity to dance

with singing artist such as Mayer Hawthorne, and performed choreography in New York

for choreographers Young Soon Kim, Toni Renee Johnson, Jacobs Dance Collective,

Pedro Ruiz, Jennifer Muller and Mike Esperanza. Lauren recently graduated Summa

Cum Laude with her masters in dance education from the Arnhold Graduate Dance

Education Program at Hunter College with the Presidential Special Recognition Award.

Lauren is also a certified Pilates mat teacher and certified personal trainer. She is

currently dancing professionally in Santa Barbara as well as teaching and directing the

competition teams Santa Barbara Dance Arts.

SHELBY LYNN JOYCE
Collaborator, Visual Artist 

SHELBY LYNN JOYCE, born and raised in Norfolk Virginia, relocated to Santa Barbara in July of 2014 after performing and training on the East coast from the age of three.  Shelby earned her BFA in Modern dance performance with an emphasis in composition at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She was also awarded multiple scholarships while studying at the university, and was recognized for excellence in dance upon graduating. While in Philadelphia, Shelby worked as a freelance dance artist and choreographer and collaborated with numerous companies and choreographers.  In 2010 Shelby joined Brian Sanders’ JUNK, an aerial based company that bridges the gap between dance and physical theater, and had the opportunity to perform and tour nationally with the company. Shelby moved back home to Virginia in 2013 where she performed with Todd Rosenlieb Dance for their 2013-2014 season. 

Shelby is currently the Manager at IM=X Pilates SB, and teaches Pilates, Yoga, and other fitness classes. She is also a visual artist and painter throughout the Santa Barbara County. Shelby most recently debuted 'Push & Pull' as Nebula's seventh work in choreographic collaboration with Devyn Duex, and also featured her original art work as the scenery for Nebula's eighth work 'The Inquisitor' premiered in Santa Barbara at Center Stage Theater October 2015, and performed to a sold out house a The Lobero for Nebula's kids matinee program November 2015. 

MEGAN RAGLAND
PRINCIPAL DANCER, CHOREOGRAPHER

MEGAN RAGLAND completed her B.A in Dance and B.S in Zoology at University of California, Santa Barbara. She began dancing at the age of three and has never stopped. Her primary training, prior to university was at the School of the Sacramento Ballet in her hometown of Sacramento, California. She has also attended summer intensives around the country including Houston Ballet, Boston Ballet, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and the San Francisco Conservator of Dance. During her senior year, Megan was honored to be a member of the UCSB Dance Company, where she was privileged to perform works by Jose Limon, Donald McKayle, Nancy Colahan and Valerie Huston. Some of her performance highlights include roles with the Sacramento Ballet, under the direction of Ron Cunningham and Carinne Binda, in Balanchine’s ‘Rodeo’, Cunningham’s ‘Bolero’, and 11 years performing in ‘The Nutcracker’. Megan is currently working as Pilates instructor at IM=X as well as a Cell Biologist at Owl Biomedical in Goleta, CA.


MEGAN BUTALA
DANCER, CHOREOGRAPHER

MEGAN BUTALA started dancing with Caravan Dance Studio in Palmdale, CA when she was three years old. Joining the studio's student company allowed more performance opportunities that fed her developing passion for dance. Upon graduating high school, Megan attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. In her time there she danced with Orchesis Dance Company, the university dance company, from 2007 to 2012 and was an Administrative Arts Intern for them from 2009-2011. She also danced with Variable Velocity Performance Group of San Luis Obispo, CA from 2010-2012. In between rehearsals and performances, she graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Materials Engineering. In September 2012 Megan relocated to Santa Barbara to join the Materials graduate program University of California, Santa Barbara and joined Nebula Dance Lab in January 2013. She is both thankful and thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in dance performance and outreach and, especially, to share her passion for dance with fellow company members and the community.

JULIANA FARLEY 
DANCER 


JULI FARLEY, recently relocated to Ventura after spending her whole life in and around the Chicago-land area. In 2011 she graduated cum laude from Northwestern University with a double major in Dance and Anthropology. During her time in Chicago, Juli worked professionally with many Chicago-based companies and artists, most notably Same Planet Different World Dance Theater, Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak and choreography by Jeff Hancock and Julia Rhoads. She has also appeared in several dance films by Monica Thomas/montom arts. Juli would like to thank Devyn and the rest of the Nebula team for allowing her to join in the fun mid-season!
