Master Class Series- February 28th & March 1st 

An opportunity to experience the training, processes, choreography of some of the professional artists/companies attending HHII Dance Festival in this new Master Class Series. Classes are in collaboration with UCSB, at the UCSB campus February 28th and March 1st, 2018. 

Please note, classes are each $20.00 for the Public/Community. You will receive a credit for each payment. At the class you will be required to sign-in and credits will be assessed at that time. Thank you!

FELEDI Project | Janos Feledi 

Feledi Project was established by Feledi János, multi-faceted, choreographer and performer, graduating from the Hungarian Dance Academy in 2003 [Ballet].

His initial career began as a member of Győri Ballet, working as a solo dancer and choreographer. After mastering in ballet Feledi became a member of PR-Evolution Dance Company and BaDora Dance Company. In 2010, through the presentation of Feledi’s first choreographic work the Feledi Project was born. Since the initial opening of the company Feledi has created 7 plays, all of which are constantly on schedule in the National Dance Theater, Skéné Theater and all the famous Hungarian festivals, with sold out tickets. The company and the project is characterized by high level skill, excellent artistic composure, professionalism, energy and uniqueness. His choreographies are mature, unique themed. They combine classical ballet and modern dance in a unique way. The quality work in numerous performances earned the enthusiasts' love and acknowledgement. The proof of this is that in 2014 Feledi Project was chosen to be a member of the Hungarian Dance Association and the Society of Hungarian Choreographers.

Kiruthika Rathanaswami
Kiruthika Rathanaswami is a bharata natyam dancer who has been under the guidance and mentorship of Jai Govinda, Artistic Director of Mandala Arts and Culture in Vancouver, Canada for the past 22 years.  She completed her bharata natyam arangetram (graduation) at the academy in 2004 and since then has been a part of many of Mandala's professional productions and presentations as a soloist, and ensemble.  Although she has performed extensively in Vancouver, she has also been presented in Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Santa Barbara, and Baltimore.  Some of those notable festivals include Canada Dance Festival, Gait to the Spirit Festival, Horizon Series, Feats Festival, HH11 Dance Festival, Nextfest, Baltimore Dance Invitational and New Works Dance All Sorts.  Kiruthika was also featured as the lead dancer in the documentary film "The Great Night of Shiva" (2011) which was broadcast nationally on Vision TV Canada.  In the summer of 2015, Kiruthika was invited to speak as panelist at a National Dance Symposium "Beyond Boundaries - Imagining a New Future for South Asian Dance in Canada" by Sampradaya Dance Creations in Mississauga, Ontario. Kiruthika is the recipient of the 2012 City of Vancouver "The Mayor's Arts Award" for emerging artist in Dance and the 2016 Dancing Damsel Women Achiever Award for the Performing Arts.

On the poetry of “Swami” Dikshitar the dancer glorifies various attributes of Lord Shiva.  He is known as Neelakantam after he drank the ocean of poison.  He is described as the lord of the forest flower, who is always in the company of the beautiful rounded breast Amba.  He is praised by the moon and worshiped with great devotion by the poet.

MEREDITH CABANISS (Choreographer, Rehearsal Director, Lighting Designer, Dancer) Meredith Cabaniss is a multi-creative artist based out of southern California. She graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BFA in Dance. During her studies she was a Regent’s Scholar; member of the UCSB Dance Company; and received undergraduate honors including an Undergraduate Research Award for her departmental Honor’s Project, the Corwin Award for choreography, and other departmental awards. During her time at UC Santa Barbara, Ms. Cabaniss also studied with Batsheva Dance Company and obtained her 200-hr CYT in Vinyasa yoga. After graduating, she continued her studies at Dance Education Laboratory at the 92Y in New York City and at Loyola Marymount University.

As the founder of Santa Barbara-based company selah dance collective, Meredith has produced and presented works throughout the United States in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City as well as abroad in Europe and Asia. Her work has been commissioned by the University of California, Santa Barbara, Mendocino College, and Elevated Dreams Aerial Performance Group. Ms. Cabaniss also currently serves as artistic director of Növus Dance Project in Los Angeles and assistant director and resident choreographer for Nebula Dance Lab in Santa Barbara. She travels internationally and nationally as a dance educator while pursuing her MFA in Dance at Hollins University in conjunction with Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, the Frankfurt University for Music and the Performing Arts, and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (formerly the Forsythe Company).
