PERFORMANCES

Upcoming: Through the Looking Glass a piece inspired by the book by Lewis Carroll

PLUS Premiering a new original work by internationally renowned choreographer Edgar Zendejas

A compelling new work inspired by Lewis Carroll’s book, premieres at the Lobero for one night only. Alice’s imaginative and curious world comes to life through intricately woven choreography by Meredith Cabaniss, Devyn Duex, and Karyn Laver, featuring collaborations with The Dance Network and SELAH dance collective. To breath depth and color into the world of Alice, Nebula once again collaborates with composer Adam Phillips to create an original score, which will be played live by a small ensemble, and visual artist Shelby Lynn Joyce to paint the landscape of the Looking Glass.

Nebula Dance Lab also teams up with internationally renowned choreographer Edgar Zendejas to curate Nebula's eleventh new work. This evening will premiere the results of this exquisite partnership.

This evening is a must-see evening of dance!

E N D G A M E  by selah dance collective | Meredith Cabaniss

A must see evening of dance featuring guest performance by companies across the US.

For their third Santa Barbara production, Meredith Cabaniss/selah dance collective teams up with Nebula Dance Lab to bring together young, emerging artists from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and New York to create an exhilarating evening of innovative dance work. Part of a larger exchange of movement and production ideas from coast to coast, this radical evening will show eight new works. Guest companies include Hannah Ruth Brothers (SB), Smashworks Dance (NY), Bones Movement (SF) and Novus Dance Project (LA).

Featured work Endgame, by Meredith Cabaniss/selah dance collective, is an evening-length work that explores the fluid balance of reality and illusion as expressed by the continual reconciliation of what we wish and what we know. Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s play of the same name as well as the work of Marcel Duchamp and other artists of the 1913 Armory Show, this piece creates a world where the usable becomes unusable, the obvious is suspicious, and reality is questioned. An ambitious creative endeavor in the company’s third season, Endgame comes to life through emotional rawness, physical exertion, and fast-paced non-linear narrative.
